John must have had some impact as we called our family cat "Trim". I can remember John exulting over a new variety of pesto- 'pumpesto!!', joking about Can-Can dancers, and generally enjoying welcoming people to his very interesting home. I do also recall him bellowing "FIGJAM" at my dad as he was performing his steam train harmonica tunes, at the Thirlmere Steam Festival. He did not approve of the style of playing, apparently. I don't think Dad minded the heckling. As a local Thirlmere resident I often saw John heading up to the local newsagent to buy the paper, wearing his 'tam o'shanter' hat. I still have a foot-powered lagerphone given to me by John, which he made as a copy of a lagerphone someone he knew was using to busk around Europe with as a one-man-band. We are dusting it off and hoping to bring it out to the Palm Creek Festival soon. Hope you are well Jan, best wishes, Julia Haig (nee Ware).
