You might like this photo from Freda Brown's ASIO file... It was a send-off event for delegates going to a Youth Congress meeting in Warsaw on a ship called "Neptunia". Photo taken at a dock - perhaps Walsh Bay or Darling Harbour.  (

Warsaw Youth Congress, "Neptunia",  Sydney, 18 June 1955.

ASIO had been keeping an eye on the Bush Music Club & other subversives for a long time, but they got it wrong again -
1 - woman in dark dress
2 - woman with child
3 - Harry Kay on mouthorgan (correct)
4 - (not Chris Kempster)  - Jack Barrie on bush bass
5 - (not Alex Hood) -  John Meredith on accordion
6 - (above head of whistle player and definitely not Margaret Walker) - Alan Scott on whistle.
The tall guitarist is obviously Chris Kempster, with Cecil Grivas? on lagerphone.
Is the man with dark hair carrying an instrument?
Cecil Grivas played lagerphone & Alex played bones

More research is needed

Alan certainly played tin whistle, also concertina. It looks like  him.

Although it is not a very clear photo, I don’t believe the whistle player is anyone else, but the man with ’the aggressively Australian voice’, our great friend and much loved Alan Scott.
Thanks for all your work Sandra.
